What’s The (now) Nine-Year-Old reading this week?

Our mostly-weekly survey of the tidbits that cross The (now) Nine-Year-Old’s desk (Happy birthday, The Nine-Year-Old!). This week, The Nine-Year-Old picks her favorite Laura Ingalls Wilder story, reviews the entire history of Snoopy’s wars with the Red Baron, and takes steps to counter Bunnicula’s plans for the coming Vampire Bunny/Zombie Vegetable Apocalypse.

What’s The Eight-Year-Old reading this week?

Regular readers will recall that last week, The Eight-Year-Old took a firm stand on the subject of No Chapter Books on Spring Break Week. Spring Break would be All Comic Books All the Time, Mommyo, and There’s Nothing You Can Do About It Except Read One With Me. Well, imagine my surprise when I caught The Eight-Year-Old on our Very Large Red Reading Couch with a copy of Al Capone Does My Shirts.

“Did Kate Warne really save Abraham Lincoln?”

This week, The Eight-Year-Old came home in triumph bearing a signed copy of Kate Hannigan’s The Detective’s Assistant. This sparked a minor disagreement about which member of our family would get to read it first. “You’ll have to get in line, Mommyo. I saw it first.” While I wait, my daughter has a homework assignment for me. “Mommyo, did Kate Warne really save Abraham Lincoln?”
