Trekking across Hoth

One of the wonderful things about living in our new neighborhood is that The Six-Year-Old and I get to walk to and from school every day. Any day it’s above 10 degrees outside that is. Normally, I love it. Exercise built right into my day. Nothing special I have to do to accomplish it, and The Six-Year-Old is a really fun walking buddy. Especially in winter. So many snow fights…

But yesterday, I just wasn’t feeling it. What with the wind, rain, snow melt, ice, and sludge, the sidewalks are a mess.

Mommyo, surveying the ice pond below our window: “The Six-Year-Old, I think today is a good day to drive to school.”

The Six-Year-Old, persuasively: “But Mommyo, how can I pretend I’m trekking across Hoth if I’m in the back seat of the car?”
