Fostering curiosity in kids (and their parents) since 2011

Reminder: Fundraiser for The Five-Year-Old’s Four-Year-Old Friend is Tonight!

Promoted, because the big event is tonight. Also updated to reflect the fact that the Auction and Raffle catalogs are now available.

It seemed like school had only been out for a few hours when we got the news last July.

One of The Five-Year-Old’s preschool friends had been diagnosed with kidney cancer.

While The Five-Year-Old and I scampered around Dedham photographing bunnies, this gorgeous, mischievous Four-Year-Old child had had one of her kidneys removed and endured the first of six months of chemotherapy.

Sometimes simply dropping off a casserole to feed a family for a night feels so very insufficient.

Which is why I was so excited to hear that there was another way to show this precious Four-Year-Old and her family our love more directly.

On Saturday, September 22, Norwood Montessori will host a very special Kid’s Night Out at the Gymnastics Academy of Boston – Norwood. The evening will feature a variety of activities including an open gym, games, bouncy houses, and a movie for potty-trained kids of all ages, as well as a raffle and a Silent Auction for their parents. (Parents are also welcome to simply drop their kids off at the gym so they can enjoy a rare night out of their own.)

Pizza and popcorn will be served at the event. All proceeds will go directly to our Four-Year-Old Friend and her family to help defray the medical expenses associated with her recovery.

As a veteran of past Kid’s Night Out events at the Gymnastics Academy of Boston – Norwood, The Five-Year-Old can personally vouch for the fact that the evenings are “super fun but sort of exhausting.”

The festivities start at 6:30 p.m. Parents should plan to pick up their children by 9:30. Tickets are $25 for the first child and $15 for each additional child in the family. Preregistration with the Gymnastics Academy of Boston – Norwood is required.

Can’t make the Kid’s Night Out but still want to participate in the Silent Auction or Raffle?

The complete catalog of items up for auction and/or raffle is now available. You can find the Silent Auction catalog here, the Raffle catalog here, or visit GAB to view both catalogs and place your bids in person.

Items up for raffle or bid include a Vineyard Vines tote signed by NE Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelmana, a fire pit, a handmade quilt, $100 Barnes & Noble gift card, an American Girl Doll, a Nook, a Nook tablet, assorted Tupperware and Pampered Chef items, Build-a-Bear swag, and gift certificates to local restaurants.

To participate, simply stop by the Gymnastics Academy of Boston – Norwood sometime before 8:45 p.m. tonight to place your bid or purchase raffle tickets. Raffle tickets are on sale for $5 each (or 3 for $10).

You do not have to be present to win. If you are participating in the Silent Auction, simply let Tamiko Porter (tamikop@msn.com) know the highest bid you are willing to place on an auction item and she will bid for you. Raffle and auction winners will be contacted within 48 hours and payment is due upon receipt of the item.
