“Is Florida faster than Boston or slower?”

We spent Christmas in Florida last year. As we were driving to the airport for our flight home, we started talking about time. Specifically, time zones and how they would affect our travel plans. On hearing that when it’s 11:15 a.m. in Boston, it’s only 10:15 a.m. in Pensacola, Florida, The (then) Four-Year-Old asked: “Is Florida faster than Boston or slower?”

“How long do satellites stay in the air?”

As part of her Mars Rover Curiosity Liftoff Celebration, The Four-Year-Old built a satellite launch pad out of Legos, with only a few targeted assists from her parents. While hard at work on the cargo truck, The Four-Year-Old paused long enough to ask, “Mommyo, how long do satellites stay in the air?”

“How long will it take for my wishbone to fossilize?”

A week or two ago there was a heated scene in our kitchen between my daughter and her father regarding the future of a rather extraordinary (in my daughter’s opinion) wishbone extracted from a rather ordinary (in her father’s opinion) rotisserie chicken. My daughter wanted to add the wishbone to her collection. My husband objected. “Bones have no place in this house. Unless they are fossils.” Wait for it… “Daddyo, how long will it take for my wishbone to fossilize?”
