Guest Post: The best children’s book you haven’t read
Grumbly Bunnies
By Willie Welch
Illustrated by Tammie Lyon
Charlesbridge Publishing, 2009
Age Range: 2 and up
You probably haven’t read Grumbly Bunnies, by Willie Welch and Tammie Lyon. I am guessing, of course: I don’t know if you’ve actually read it or not. But I imagine I’m right because — right now — the book is ranked 2,497,499th in sales rank on Amazon.
That’s a shame because it’s an absolutely brilliant book. Although the illustrations are great, and the message to kids (the day gets better) is important, what’s really spectacular is the absolute command of meter — it’s a true joy to read something aloud that goes like
Grumbly bunnies in the morning, crusty eyes and groggy yawns, stumble bumbling in the closet, struggle putting school clothes on.
If you have little kids, do yourself a favor and get this book.
