A simple chart plotting the ROI of going to various places based on how many shots you'll need and how likely it is you will find fossils there

Caterpickles Cleans House

The Four-Year-Old has been asking questions much more quickly than I can research and answer them. At the moment, my pending questions queue has some 115 questions in it. So in an effort to tame the beast a bit, I’m going to break with my one primary question per Caterpickle routine and deal with several unrelated questions about glow-in-the-dark cats, fossils in Iceland (or the lack thereof), and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer all at once.

“Can it rain cats and dogs, Mommyo?”

The Four-Year-Old, on the afternoon of the third of three very rainy days: “Can it rain cats and dogs, Mommyo?”

Mother, tired after fielding an unusually active bout of questioning and trying out a new strategy of tossing one of those questions back at the preschooler: “I don’t know, can it?”

The Four-Year-Old: “No, that’s silly. I just wanted to test you.”

“Why can’t cats drink milk?”

When my daughter saw the Aristocats slurping happily at a bowl of cream, she naturally wanted to pour a bowl for our own cats. I had to shoot this down. Although our normally timid grey tabby would body slam our calico out of the way for a taste of the creamy stuff, the sad fact is our tabby’s tummy can’t take it. Why can’t cats drink milk?

Book Review: The Cat’s Pajamas

From reading this blog you might think that my four-year-old daughter was simply obsessed with dinosaurs, but that is only because I have refrained from reporting most of her cat-related antics on the theory that the Internet already has enough cats. So when I found The Cat’s Pajamas in the bargain bin at my local bookstore, I was pretty sure I’d found a winner.

In which my daughter lays eggs

Preschooler, rushing into mother’s room: “Mommyo! Mommyo! I just laid some eggs in the bathroom!”

Mother: “How’d that go for you?”

Preschooler: “Great! I’ll have even more kittens soon!”
